Wedding Photography FAQ's
When meeting with you potential wedding photographer it is important to make sure you are confident in making the right decision and that they can capture your day in a way that is perfect you. Because of this I always encourage my clients to ask as many questions as possible to ensure they have all the information they need to make the best choice. When meetings with clients I always have a lot of fun getting to know them and hearing about their wedding plans. Here is a list of some of the frequently asked questions I get asked by couples.
What is you wedding photography style?
I've put this question first as I think it is one you like the answer to before going further. I describe my style as creative photojournalism. I see it as my job to take photos that tell the story of your day in a natural and unobtrusive way. Most of the shots I take that my clients love are the special moments that happen in the day that are spontaneous and captured in a creative and honest way. Of course there are moments in the day in which I will use direction such as for family photographs and your couple photographs but even then I encourage and capture natural moments and real smiles.
Do you have a contract?
When choosing to secure your date for your wedding with me, I will send you an online contract to sign. This along with your booking fee will officially book your date. I think the contract is important and covers both myself and you should anything happen. I have not yet had to use my contract but its always very comforting to have.
What happens if you are ill or suddenly unable to attend?
I always answer this question the same in that I am very well connecting with other photographers and will do everything in my power to make sure a replacement photographer is found with no additional expense to you if their prices are higher. I have never yet missed a wedding and do feel confident that I can find cover however should the very unlikely event happen that I can not find a replacement then a full refund will of course be given.
Do you have insurance?
Of course! All wedding photographers operate their business slightly differently but I would never hire a photographer who did not at least have Public Liability Insurance which i am well covered for. I also have Indemnity cover and full insurance on my gear so should you see anything happen to a lens you'll never see me overly worried! I have backups for everything on the day so should their be any unlikely gear issues there will be almost certainly no impact on your day.
How long will it take to receive my images?
This can vary slightly depending on when your wedding date is with August being the busiest year. My target is always 3-5 weeks turnaround time throughout the year at which point you will be able to access your images from your online gallery.
What kind of equipment do you use?
Im a fan of Canon cameras and shoot with a 5d Mark iv I use a variety of prime lenses which give me tack sharp images and that lovely out of focus background that is a big part of my photography style. I use flash in a variety of situations throughout the day but you most likely won't see any flash for most of the day and definitely not during the ceromony!
What time do you start and when do you leave?
My coverage for wedding photography is unlimited and you will never find me counting hours throughout the day. I typically start with bridal preparation in the morning and we will decide together when you would like me to arrive depending on factors like when makeup starts and whats going on, I will be there all day until after first dance and then leave at a time that is appropriate to end coverage . I love getting shots of the evening guests and those awesome dance-floor shots so I will stick around for at least an hour after first dance and if the dance floor is lively I will most likely stick around even longer.
Do we get an engagement shoot?
Yes absolutely! I offer an add on engagement to every couple as I feel they are not only a great addition to your package but can also benefit me in helping me to get to know you guys better before the day. I shoot engagement shoots throughout the year however due to the dates most weddings fall I can not usually do an engagement shoot on a Saturday and many Sundays. You can click this link to see an example of my engagement photography.
What do you wear on the day?
I will be at your wedding dressed smart and respectable. Normally I also make sure my clothes don't restrict me when i'm moving around throughout the day so normally I wear a smart oxford shirt and suit trousers or smart chinos. Should you have a black tie or other dress code on the day please let me know and I will be sure to dress accordingly.
Do we feed you on the day?
I do not state in my contract that you need to provide me with a meal on the day however of course it is always appreciated and I won't deny that a warm meal can help recharge the batteries for the evening. However if you can not provide a meal do not worry at all I always have food with me either way. What I do require though is that I will take a break whilst you and your guests are having your meal.
How much time do we allow for our family and couple wedding photos?
This depends on your wedding and how many guests you have . I make a special effort to make sure that your family photos look great and don't take more time then they need . I advise that you allow 30 minutes for your family photos to make sure it is never rushed however I normally get these done in about 15.
Do you meet with every couple before booking?
I do try to meet with every couple before they book and will do most of the time if they are nearby, I will usually meet with potential clients at a coffee shop nearby to them, if I am not able to meet for any reason then I will suggest a Skype call where we cover all the same topics and I will make sure we meet before the wedding date.
How do I reserve my date?
To secure your date you will need to get in touch by filling out my contact form. After I have confirmed your date is available we can either arrange a meeting or if you are happy to book I will send you your invoice and contract which when completed will secure your date. When is my final balance due?
Your final balance is due one month before the wedding date however you can pay any time before this.
