Your Wedding Photography Guide

I am so excited for your big day! I’ve put together a little guide which may be helpful for the big day! Below you’ll find some

But First, A little reassurance…

You do not need to know how to pose. You do not need a perfect timeline. You do not need to worry about being in front of the camera all day. My job is to make this feel easy, keep things relaxed, and capture the day as it actually felt.

Leading up

to the wedding

Between now and the wedding, there’s nothing you need to stress about from a photography point of view.

If anything comes up, timelines, suppliers, ideas, or just not knowing how things usually work, I’m always happy to help. Just let me know I'm only a message away :)

A few months before

Around a couple of months out, I’ll send over a short questionnaire. This just covers all the key details I need, timings, addresses, group photos, and anything important to you both.

Once I’ve got everything back, we can go over the plan for the day. This can be as simple or as detailed as you want, some couples like a quick check-in, others prefer to leave it with me.

If needed, I can help shape your timeline so everything flows properly without feeling rushed.

Group photos

If you’d like group photos, I recommend keeping the list fairly short and focused on the people who matter most.

A good rule is around 8 groups. Any more than that and it can start to take over the cocktail hour.

It also really helps to:

  • let people know in advance if they’re needed

  • nominate someone who knows both families to help gather people

A quick note on timings

Weddings can sometimes run a little late. That’s completely normal.

The best thing you can do is build in a bit of breathing room rather than planning everything down to the minute. It keeps the day feeling relaxed and gives space for things to actually happen naturally.

On The Day Of The Wedding

This is the easy part. You’ve done the planning, now is the time to be a guest at your own wedding.

Spend time with your people, and enjoy it. I’ll take care of the rest.

How I work

Most of the day, I’ll be working in a documentary way. That means I’m not constantly directing or pulling you away, I’m blending in and capturing things as they actually happen.

The moments, the atmosphere, the people, all the stuff you might miss.

I’ll step in when needed, especially for group photos and a short bit of couple portraits, but outside of that I’m there to observe, not interrupt.

Getting ready

I’ll arrive during prep and ease into things. No pressure, no forcing moments, just capturing what’s naturally happening. Typically this would be about 2 hours before you plan to head off to the ceremony.

If you and your partner are getting ready at the same location I should be able to cover sides of prep, if not and you’d like both sides capturing a second shooter might be a good idea.

A big reason

The ceremony

I keep things low-key and respectful. No distractions, no getting in the way.

You can stay fully present knowing everything’s being covered.

Group photos

We’ll keep these quick and organised so they don’t take over your day.

I’ll guide it, keep things moving, and get you back to your guests as soon as possible. Most of the time I will get your family photos done in the latter half of your cocktail hour unless there is a reason to do it right after the ceremony ( at a church for example)

Couple photos,

This is always way more relaxed than people expect.

We’ll take 10–15 minutes, nothing long or awkward. I’ll give you just enough direction so you’re not stood there wondering what to do, but it’ll feel natural, not staged.

Then you’re straight back to the party. Here is a little video of what couple photos look like so you know what to expect.

The rest of the day

From drinks to speeches to the dance floor, I’m there capturing everything as it unfolds.

The big moments, the small ones, and all the in-between bits that actually make the day what it is. I will take a short break during the meal but apart from that Im on the lookout for whatever captures my eye.

The only thing I need from you

Have an amazing day.

Talk to people, laugh, hug everyone, have a drink, enjoy it properly.

You don’t need to think about the camera. The best photos happen when you’re just having a good time.

After The Wedding

After the wedding

After your wedding, stage 3 of my job begins :)

I head home, backup and start going through everything while it’s still fresh, picking out the best moments and beginning the edit.

Sneak peeks

You’ll get a small set of sneak peeks shortly after the wedding. Some documentary moments, Some photos perfect for thank you cards. As long as it’s ok with you I will also post some of these onto my social media. This is

It’s one of the main ways new couples find me, but if you’d prefer to keep things private, just let me know.

After The Wedding

A few common questions

What if it rains?

It’s completely fine.

I’m very used to British weather and we’ll just adapt. We can use indoor spaces, wait for breaks, or just embrace it. Some of the best photos happen in less-than-perfect conditions.

What if we’re awkward in front of the camera?

You’re supposed to be.

Most couples feel like this, and it’s exactly why I don’t rely on heavy posing. I’ll give you just enough direction to make you feel comfortable, then let things happen naturally.

You don’t need to be good at this.

Do you need to have photographed our venue before?

No.

It can help, but it’s never essential. I can work anywhere. Light, people, and moments matter far more than knowing the layout in advance.

What if things run late?

They usually do.

It’s not a problem. I’ll adapt as the day unfolds and make sure the important moments are still covered. A slightly loose timeline is always better than a stressful one.

Can we give you a shot list?

For group photos, absolutely.

For the rest of the day, it’s not really needed. If something is important, tell me, but I’ll already be looking for the key moments and everything in between.

Can guests ask you for photos?

Of course.

I’m always happy to grab quick photos for people. The only time I might hold things back slightly is if it starts pulling you away from your day too much.

What if something goes wrong?

Something always does, and that’s completely normal.

Weddings aren’t meant to be perfect. The best approach is to roll with it, and I’ll be there capturing it all as it happens.

What happens if you’re ill?

Very rare, but I have a network of trusted photographers I can call on if needed.

You wouldn’t be left without coverage.

Do you stay late?

Yes.

I stay well into the evening to capture the dance floor, the chaos, and everything that makes the night what it is.
