“Thank you so much for being our wedding photographer – the pictures are amazing and we are so happy with them!”
East Quay in Whistable is one of my favorite wedding venues to shoot at, it just oozes cool and is great for those looking for a laid back wedding by the coast. Lou and Ray had an awesome day enjoying the sunshine, the ice cream was a great touch! If you’re on the lookout for a beachside wedding venue in Kent that provides a great backdrop for a relaxing and fun wedding than East Quay could be the perfect wedding venue for you. As a wedding photographer, I love coming back here time and time again.

About East Quay
East Quay is a seaside wedding venue just full of shabby chic character. Its located in the harbor of Whitstable amongst the heart of the seafront. The building itself used to be the Oyster grading room for the Seasalter and Ham fishery company and the venue has kept a lot of that in its ambiance. The venue is quirky and full of awesome seaside decorations. The views of the ocean are something to behold and definitely the main attraction of this wedding venue. When it comes to hosting weddings, East Quay Staff are complete professionals and have the best wedding staff. They cater to many weddings throughout both the winter and summer months and yet every wedding I have been a photographer for there has been different.
Getting Ready For the Wedding
For Lou and Ray's big day, the soon to be married couple both got ready at a nearby hotel with their wedding party. The whole morning was a lot of fun and everyone was really relaxed. Lou had some really cool wedding details that I took photos of including a unique take on wedding flowers and a spectacular wedding dress. Once everyone was ready I headed over ahead of everyone to see Ray and the guests
The ceremony at East Quay
For your wedding ceremony at East Quay, there are two locations to choose from. The larger of the two is the upstairs Mezzanine, there is great window light up here that wedding photographers will really enjoy working in. Couples can also be wed downstairs in the area that becomes the dancefloor later on. Both spaces are absolutely full of character! Lou and Ray had decorated the upstairs area in a really beautiful and personal way which you can see in the photos below. Lou and her family also arrived in a Camper Van which suited the theme really well.
The Wedding Reception
After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed a relaxing cocktail hour featuring ice cream and ping pong! They used streamers instead of confetti which was a great idea. I love that the wedding reception is able to take place on the stony beach. Guests can really relax in this natural setting and if they like they can wander the beach and the waters edge. Next to the venue are some colorful beach huts which also make for quirky photographs. Guests can even have oysters as canapes!
Once it was time to head back inside for food. There are many options for meals at this seaside venue, Lou and Ray went for the option of fish and chips which was so delicious! The fish actually comes from the local fisherman as well.
East Quay Wedding Photos
Lou, Ray and I wandered off twice on the wedding day for some wedding portraits on the beach, the weather was amazing and there was a perfect sunset which I and my camera both thoroughly enjoyed.
The Wedding Party
After the speeches (which featured a hilarious presentation from Ray's best man) and a bake-off competition, it was time to hit the dance-floor. The wedding party danced the night away and there were some seriously good shapes being thrown. I especially enjoyed the addition of the glitter station upstairs!
